How to Delete Media Indexer (MI) cache files on Interplay Editor / Clients
Location of MI cache files may be in either:
(PC)
C:\ProgramData\Avid\AvidMI
C:\AppData\local\Avid\AvidMI
C:\Program Files\Avid\AvidMI\state
(Mac)
Mac HD > Applications > Avid Media Indexer > state
WinXP
- Click Start > Programs > Avid > Avid Service Framework > Avid Workgroup Properties > click STOP (wait for services to Stop) > click Apply then OK
- Open My Computer > C drive > Program Files > Avid > AvidMI > state
- You will see files with extension .cache and one with .bak
- Create a new folder on the Desktop: name it ‘old cache’
- Cut & move all .cache files plus .bak to ‘old cache’ ** in the rare event that the situation gets abnormal, we can revert to these old cache files
- Click Start > Programs > Avid > Avid Service Framework > Avid Workgroup Properties > click START (wait for services to Start) > click Apply then OK
- Click Start > Programs > Avid > Avid Service Framework > Service Configuration
- As this launches, you may be prompted to enter a “workgroup name.” This is the Interplay workgroup name. Enter this name and click connect. Ask staff if you are unsure.
- As Service Configuration opens, hostnames should populate on the left side
- Look for the bolded out host (this is the computer you are on). Click the triangle, and select Media Indexer.
- You may be prompted to enter Password. Ask staff if you are unsure.
- Once you are in, click Yes on unrestricted security
- Click the Configure button at bottom
- The Media Table window appears. It should be blank.
- Click Add > choose Avid Interplay Media Indexer > click OK
- Select bottom option, connect to MI HAG > there should already be a HAG listed
- Accept this configuration and apply the changes.
- Launch Editor again, connect to Interplay and confirm if media is online
- If all is well, delete the 'old cache' folder on Desktop
Vista / Win7
- Click Start > Programs > Avid > Avid Service Framework > Avid Workgroup Properties > click STOP (wait for services to Stop) > click Apply then OK

Mac / Apple
1. Open Mac HD > click Applications > Avid > Avid Interplay Access > Interplay Administrator
2. Login to IP Administrator > click Service Configuration
3. Select pulldown for bolded out hostname (which is the Mac you are on) > select Avid Interplay Media Indexer
4. Enter Password, and click Yes for Unrestricted Security
5. Click Configure button
6. Media Table opens. Remove everything in this Window. Click OK. (this only affects this Editor)
7. Close IP Administrator
8. Open Mac HD > Applications > Avid Media Indexer > state >
9. You may see files with extension .cache and one with .bak (leave folders config and log, alone)
10. Create a new folder on the Desktop: name it ‘old cache’
11. Cut & move all .cache files plus .bak to ‘old cache’ ** in the rare event that the situation gets abnormal, we can revert to these old cache files
12. Login to IP Administrator again > click Service Configuration
13. Find the bolded out hostname > select Media Indexer > click Configure
14. Media Table opens up and should still be blank.
15. Click Add > choose Avid Interplay Media Indexer > select your HAG > click Apply then OK
16. HAG should appear with Gear icon. Add selected Local Drives if necessary
17. Launch Avid Editor and confirm media is still online.
