Ricoh Pro Tools Performance Tool for LE FireWire Devices on Windows Systems |
Ricoh Pro Tools Performance Tool
Ricoh s Pro Tools Performance Tool consists of two files:- RIPTStart.exe – Sets the Ricoh 1394 controller for use with Pro Tools LE
- RIPTEnd.exe – Resets the Ricoh 1394 controller to its default settings
Purpose:
Ricoh, in cooperation with Digidesign, provides this application to address specific performance issues with Digidesign LE FireWire interfaces when daisy-chained from FireWire hard drives connected to a Ricoh FireWire controller:- Reduces DAE -6088 and 6086 errors with Digidesign 002/003
- Reduces DAE -9094 errors with MBox 2 Pro
NOTE: This application can be used with all Ricoh 1394 controllers.
Digidesign has tested the Ricoh Pro Tools Performance Tool on supported PC laptops and observed record and playback performance up to Level 2. Variations in system configurations may produce differing results.
For information on supported PC laptops and performance levels, see the following:
- Windows Laptops — Pro Tools LE 8.0 FireWire Systems

Support:
The Ricoh Pro Tools Performance Tool is intended for use with Ricoh 1394 controllers only and is provided AS-IS. Digidesign and Ricoh do not offer technical support for this application, nor do they guarantee performance improvements. DIGIDESIGN AND RICOH MAKE NO WARRANTY, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT WILL DIGIDESIGN OR RICOH BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES RESULTING FROM USE OF THE PERFORMANCE TOOL.Known Issues:
- Maximum number of daisy-chained FireWire hard drives is limited to two. Use of more than two FireWire hard drives may result in increased DAE -6086 errors.
- Users may experience increased DAE -9019 and DAE -9073 errors.
- DAE -6088 errors may still occur on some systems at 88.2kHz/96kHz sample rates.
-
MBox 2 Pro may fall offline after running the Ricoh applications resulting in a DAE -6006 error when launching Pro Tools LE. To avoid this error, use the following workarounds:
- Disconnect the FireWire and power cables from the MBox 2 Pro prior to running RIPTStart.exe, then re-connect them afterwards.
- If the MBox 2 Pro was connected when RIPTStart.exe was run, disconnect, then reconnect the FireWire and power cables.
Instructions:
NOTE: The settings applied by RIPTStart.exe are not permanent and must be reapplied after a restart or shutdown.- Run FireWire_ID.vbs to determine whether your computer has a Ricoh FireWire controller. If so, continue to step 2. This application will only run on Ricoh FireWire controllers.
-
Run RIPTStart.exe to tune the Ricoh FireWire controller.
- If using MBox 2 Pro, disconnect the FireWire and power cables from the device before running RIPTStart.exe and re-connect them afterwards.
- Launch Pro Tools LE.
- To use other FireWire devices after quitting Pro Tools LE, run RIPTEnd.exe to reset the Ricoh FireWire controller to its default settings.
