iOS: Adding a new email account can take time to verify, depending on the ISP's security settings

Posted in Apple Portable Computers

When setting up an email account, the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch may display "Verifying account information" after entering your email settings and tapping the "Save" button. By default, the iPhone Mail app will try to setup the email account using SSL. If your ISP does not use SSL for the connection setup, it can take a couple of minutes for the iPhone Mail app to verify that SSL is not being used.

This is expected and can occur when the account's ISP does not use SSL support for their mail settings. Please wait a few minutes until the process is finished on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and do not interrupt the verification process.

If your ISP does not use SSL for the email account connection setup, tap Yes to complete the email account setup.
