Pro Applications: Entering serial number after migrating causes the application to stop responding
Symptoms
After using Migration Assistant in Mac OS X v10.6.x to migrate data and applications, you may be prompted to enter the serial number when opening a migrated application from any of the following products:
- Aperture 3
- Final Cut Studio (2009)
- Logic Studio (2009)
- Logic Express 9
After entering the serial number and clicking OK, the application may not respond.
Products Affected
Logic Express 9.x, Aperture 3.x, Final Cut Studio (2009), Logic Studio (2009)
Resolution
Follow the steps below to resolve the issue for your application:
Aperture
- Move the following items to the Trash:
- The Aperture application from the Applications folder
- /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.aelwriter.plist
- Restart your computer.
- Insert your Aperture installation disc and install Aperture.
- When finished, choose Software Update from the Apple () menu to update Aperture to the latest version.
Final Cut Studio
- Move the following items from the Applications folder to the Trash:
- Apple Qadministrator
- Apple Qmaster
- Cinema Tools
- Color
- Compressor
- DVD Studio Pro
- Final Cut Pro
- Motion
- Soundtrack Pro
- Move /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.aelwriter.plist to the Trash.
- Restart your computer.
- Insert your Final Cut Studio installation disc and install the applications, unchecking all available content items.
- When finished, choose Software Update from the Apple () menu to update Final Cut Studio to the latest version.
Logic Express
- Move the following items to the Trash:
- The Logic Express application from the Applications folder
- /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.aelwriter.plist
- Restart your computer.
- Insert your Logic Express installation disc and install Logic Express.
- When finished, choose Software Update from the Apple () menu to update to the latest versions.
Logic Studio
- Move the following items to the Trash:
- The Logic Pro application from the Applications folder
- /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.aelwriter.plist
- Restart your computer.
- Insert your Logic Studio installation disc and install Logic Pro, unchecking all available content items.
- When finished, choose Software Update from the Apple () menu to update to the latest versions.
