FIX: To install .exe files downloaded from the internet (like the Sibelius installer)on Windows 8, you’ll need to modify the registry settings.

1) Start by going to the Start Menu and type "Run" to pull up the "Run" program. Launch the "Run" program and type in “regedit” (without the quotes) into the text box and hit Enter/ Return. The Windows Registry Editor will appear.

2) Next, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem.

3) Click on the "EnableLUA" key and set the value to "0". This will disable UAC (User Account Control).

4) An Action Center message will appear prompting you to restart the computer to disable UAC.

5) Restart the computer and run EXE files downloaded from the internet at your own risk.

* NOTE: You will not be able to run any apps from the Windows store after disabling this. However, you can always set EnableLUA back to "1" to run them.
