Not able to add replacement Interplay Infortrend drive as a Global Spare

Last Updated : January 16, 2013
Products Affected : Interplay

Why can I not add a replacement drive for Avid Interplay's Infortrend as a Global Spare?
If a replacement Infortrend drive cannot be added as a Global Spare on the "Drives>Spare Drive" page in the Infortrend Web GUI it could be because the drive is associated with a different Logical Drive ID. This will be indicated by the drive being highlighted in blue. The working Logical Drive should be represented in red.

(It could also be due to the drive not being recognized by the chassis. If this is the case take a look at the article "

Infortrend array not recognizing a new spare drive")

User-added image

To clear the new drive of it's Logical Drive ID perform the following steps:
Inside the Infortrend's Web GUI...
1. Go to "Logical Drive>Set/Delete Logical Drive."
2. Select the drive in highlighted in blue that does not belong to the active Logical Drive in the Infortrend.
3. Select "Delete." (THIS WILL DELETE THE DATA ON THE DRIVE) *
4. Select "OK" to the message asking if you are sure you want to delete the drive.
5. The drive should return to a non-highlighted state.
6. Proceed with adding the drive as a Global Spare.

* If you get the error "The status of LD is shutdown now ! Cannot Delete Logical Drive (Logical Drive ID) !" see article "How to restart an Interplay Infotrend drive that is Shutdown"

Artist Series - How do I get support for my product?

Posted in Pro Tools

Technical Support

Obtaining technical support for Artist Series products varies by region. Please see below for information on how to get support for your product.

Technical support is only for technical problems with (Avid) products. Due to the high volume of calls and Avid's commitment to helping users as quickly as possible, we are unable to provide in-depth tutorial advice. Technical support for products that are not manufactured or distributed by Avid is not available. Please contact the company that makes that product for technical support with their products.

An Avid Support Code (ASC)* is required to contact Avid for technical support. After registering your product, you will receive an ASC which can be used online or via telephone. Artist Series telephone support is currently offered in English during US business hours, though telephone support in languages other than English may be provided by the authorized Avid distributor in each country. Click here for a list of contact numbers for each country. Existing customers can purchase ASC's from the Avid Store, though there are quite a few free support resources available.

* ASC’s can be purchased for English telephone support from the Avid Store

You can contact Avid by phone or internet using your Avid Support Code to get assisted support.

Infortrend How To Basics

Posted in Pro Tools

This article was based off the Infotrend model A16F-R2431.

To get the Infortrend IP address

  1. On the LCD Panel, press Enter for 2 seconds
  2. Hit Down until View and Edit Config Parms > Enter
  3. Hit Down until Communication Parameters > Enter
  4. Hit Down until LAN IP Configuration > Enter
  5. Digits may appear next as xx :xx :xx :xx :xx > hit Enter
  6. Infortrend IP address appears (scroll down to see Gateway, Subnet)
If IP Address was set using DHCP, an IP address will not appear.  See * below for solution.

To Login to Infortrend via Web Browser (known as RAIDWatch GUI)
  1. Ensure you can ping the Infortrend’s IP address from a PC.
a)Click Start > Run > type cmd > hit Enter
    b) type ping [insert Infortrend IP address here]
    c) If there is a Reply, it works.

If there is no reply, or an error, ensure the PC is connected to the Infortrend via Ethernet cable.  Also ensure the network settings (Subnet/Gateway) match your Interplay network settings.

  1. Open Web Browser on this same PC > type the IP address only > Enter
  2. A User Login screen appears.  Click pulldown for User Name > change to Configuration
  3. If password is configured, enter it.  Otherwise, leave blank & hit Login
  4. The next screen will show a graphical image of your Infortrend and various options on the Left
* How to set Infortrend IP address, Netmask, & Gateway, especially in case of DHCP

WARNING: This process requires you to reboot the Infortrend, and will cause Interplay to be down temporarily, thus loosing connection to AvidWG.
