System 5 RS422 control - Pro Tools
In depth description of System 5 TT002B machine control settings and requirements for a single Pro Tools DAW

Last Updated : May 17, 2013
Products Affected : S5_Fusion, System_5, Pro_Tools_1_6, eMix

The System 5 and System 5 Fusion consoles feature an RS422 control port to enable Machine Control over Digital Audio Workstations and other 3rd Party devices that accept RS422 control protocol with positional reference.

Note: this RS422 requirement is seperate to any System 5 or System 5 Fusion EuCon control. EuCon does not provide traditional 'Double System' Transport Control or Synchronous positional operation between systems with seperate time lines. The RS422 option should be used in addition to EuCon for certain work flows e.g. those workflows where System 5 automation is being used in addition to the internal DAW automation.

Checking into Interplay gets XML error "Media Object Creation Failed An Invalid XML character (Unicode: 0x1b) was found in the element content of the document"

Posted in Pro Tools

This happens because there's an odd character in the Comments column (such as *, arrow sign)

To resolve this:

1. Take item you are trying to check in to Interplay
2. Reveal all Media relatives
3. Enable the Comments column
4. Search comments column for any irregular comments, like *, arrow sign, and delete them
5. Check into Interplay

How to locate the serial number for a Pro Tools HD Card.

Posted in Pro Tools

There are several ways that you can locate the serial number for a Pro Tools HD card. In this article, we will show you two of the most accurate ways to get the serial number for the correct card.

The first way is by looking on the card itself. You should see a sticker on the card that contains a barcode. On this sticker you will also find the serial number. Look at the examples below.

Here is an example of an HD Accel Core (PCIe) card:

Here is an example of an HD Native card:

The second way would be to use the DigiTest utility. It can be found in various places, depending on which versions of Pro Tools you have installed and whether you're using Mac or Windows.

Pro Tools 10 and higher:

  • Mac - /Applications/Avid/Pro Tools/Pro Tools Utilities
  • Windows (64-bit) - C:\Program Files (x86)\Avid\Pro Tools\Pro Tools Utilities\DigiTest
  • Windows (32-bit) - C:\Program Files\Avid\Pro Tools\Pro Tools Utilities\DigiTest

Pro Tools 9 and lower:

  • Mac - /Applications/Digidesign/Pro Tools/Pro Tools Utilities
  • Windows (64-bit) - C:\Program Files (x86)\Digidesign\Pro Tools\Pro Tools Utilities\DigiTest
  • Windows (32-bit) - C:\Program Files\Digidesign\ProTools\Pro Tools Utilities\DigiTest

Launch the DigiTest application and then click on the Slot Info tab at the top. Beneath the Slot Info tab, click on the drop-down menu to display all available cards in your Pro Tools HD system. Choose the card for which you would like to locate the serial number.

Once DigiTest refreshes it will display the information for the card that you selected. You will see the serial number listed under 'PCI CARD INFORMATION'.
