Avid Support Center (Portal) access information

Posted in Pro Tools

The Avid Support Center also known as the Portal is integrated into the Avid Master Account on avid.com.  We made this change based on customer feedback and provides our customers with a better, more streamlined single sign-on process to manage their accounts. This is the first step as Avid transitions from the Avid Support Center to an Enhanced Support Community.

Customers will now have access to:

  • Avid Video Download Center
  • Avid Pro Video Community
  • My Products - Avid Online Store Purchases
  • Avid Support Center (Portal)
  • Avid Vantage
  • Profile Settings
  • And more.....

What this change means to you:

  • Customers will only need a single login to submit, manage and review Support cases
  • With this same login, customers will have the ability to access the most commonly used account links, applications and profile settings

As part of this change, customers will need to do one of the following on the pop up window that is presented the first time you access the new web page:

1. If you already have an Avid Master Account
If you already have an Avid Master Account, login using the same email address as you have used to login and manage your Avid Online Store purchases, Download Center access and Community login in the past.

Login here

2If you already have an Avid Master Account but you are using a different email address for the Avid Support portal
If your existing Avid Support portal account and Avid Master Account use different email addresses for login, they will need to be merged together.  The existing Master Account email address must change to the same email address used with the Support Portal account.  We can support you in this process.

Merge my Avid Support Center (Portal) and Master Account here

3. If you DO NOT have an Avid Master Account
If you do not have a Master Account but you do have an existing Support Portal Account, you will need to create a Master Account . You will need to use the same email address you have used to login and manage your Support Portal in the past. You will then be able to manage historic Support Portal cases and gain access to the Download center, Community, Online Store purchases and more.

Installing Configuring Maney Panel Card

Posted in Pro Tools

We have heard some sites has problems installing and configuring Mayne Card. Here is an example of an issue:

***********************
We have 1 Maney panel card in the Command workstation, connected to a Sony ELC automation system and to Maney box.

When receiving cues from the ELC system, Command fails to play any clips.

The Maney panel card is seen and recognized in the Health Monitor on Command Workstation. In Health monitor, we are seeing the hex codes from the ELC system coming in…. but the clips don’t play.

No error messages appear.

When attempting to manually clips via the Command User Interface, all clips play out of the Airspeed 5000’s as expected.
***********************

There is a complete chapter (Chapter 8) in the Avid Inews Command Installation and Configuration Guide v 2.7 which you can start with. Please find it attached

Media Composer Academic Student Download and Activation Process

Posted in Pro Tools

Process for new Academic Student download and activation:

To begin:

-  Students, Institutions and faculty who purchase a physical box license, will receive an Activation Card with a download code printed on it – which looks something like:
M7EDUxxxx-xxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxx

-  Go to https://account.avid.com/activation and login and enter that download code. Doing this will add your Media Composer Academic license download to your Avid.com account at account.avid.com and provide you with further instructions along with the required academic verification code (EDU-xxxxxx…… ) to use at the Identit-e website.

-  If you purchased the software from our Avid online store, your Media Composer Academic license download will be automatically added to your Avid.com account at account.avid.com.  You will still need to follow the instructions along with the required academic verification code (EDU-xxxxxx……) to use at the Identit-e website.

Then:

1.   Download the Media Composer 7.0.x installer – again this can be found in your Avid.com account at account.avid.com under "Product Not Yet Download".

2.   In your account you will see an academic validation code, which is different than the code on the Activation Card with instructions to go to www.identit-e.com/avid

3.   Go to www.identit-e.com/avid and enter this code on the page and provide your personal information that is requested.  This will validate your current academic status.

Using East West Quantum Leap Virtual Instruments with Sibelius

Posted in Pro Tools

Sibelius can load sounds from other instrument libraries automatically into some virtual instruments, like the Sibelius Player (for the Sibelius 7 Sounds) or Kontakt Player and ARIA Player (Garritan Personal Orchestra). For most other virtual instruments, like East West Quantum Leap, whether they are multi-channel or single-channel, you'll have to load the sounds yourself. If you are more of a beginner on this subject, please first see "6.15 Virtual instruments for beginners" in the Sibelius 7 Reference Guide for more information.

One easy way to make East West Quantum Leap virtual  instruments work with Sibelius is to download what is called a "Sound Set" from SoundSetProject.com, a 3rd party website that makes these for use with Sibelius & East West Products. In order to play a particular sound, Sibelius needs to know which sounds are available on its playback devices. To find out, for each device, Sibelius has a “sound set”;  an XML file that lists all the instruments/sounds the device can play (called Sound IDs) and the MIDI messages (e.g. program changes, controller changes, keyswitches) needed to play them.  In short, this sound set tells Sibelius how to associate the instruments in your score with Virtual Instruments like EWQL Symphonic Orchestra.

AMA Plugin Compatibility for Media Composer 7.0 and NewsCutter 11.0

Posted in Pro Tools

With the release of Media Composer 7 and NewsCutter 11, new versions of AMA plugins will be qualified for use with this release.

Some plugins from third parties will not be available at the time of release. This article will be updated as they are released.

Existing AMA plugins already installed for Media Composer 6.5, Symphony 6.5, and NewsCutter 10.5 can be used with Media Composer 7 and NewsCutter 11, however these configurations are not qualified and you may experience issues. We recommend installing the updated AMA plugins as soon as they become available from their manufactures if you rely on them in your workflow.

Note: Use of AMA clips with Background Transcode and Dynamic Media Folders will require the qualified plugins to ensure functionality.

The following file types are not supported for Dynamic Media Folders in Media Composer 7 or NewsCutter 11

  • Uncompressed 8 bit and 10 bit Quicktime files
  • Quicktime files that include an alpha channel
  • Sony XDCAM, XDCAM EX, XAVC, RAW, HDCAM SR

3rd Party Software Bundle Licensing and Installation

Posted in Pro Tools

Bundled Software: For information on the latest versions of 3rd party software bundled or supported with Avid editing applications, see the 3rd Party Support Matrix

* If you did not receive the latest software in your download or physical boxed set, you can download them from the Download Center

Installers: The installers can be downloaded from your Avid.com account. They do not get installed automatically when you choose "Install Avid Editor Suite" from the Media Composer, Symphony, or Newscutter installer.

Each one of these products requires its own unique serial number entered upon installation in order to activate.

Note on upgrading to Avid FX 6.0.x, BCC 8.0.x or Squeeze 8.0.x:

If you have Avid FX 6.0, BCC 8.0 or Squeeze 7.0.1 already installed, do not uninstall these applications when upgrading to Avid FX 6.0.x, BCC 8.0.x or Squeeze 8.0.x. Just run the new installer. Upon installation, the existing serial number is detected by the installer and will allow you to upgrade.

If you’re installing Avid FX 6.0.x, BCC 8.0.x or Squeeze 8.0.x for the first time, the serial number you received in your box or email will work to activate these products.

If you had uninstalled these applications and are installing the new versions, your old serial numbers will still work.

Note on Squeeze activation:

When you install Squeeze the installer will prompt you for your serial number and registration information. You need to provide an email address in order for Sorenson to send you an Activation Key which you which you will enter at the next screen to complete the activation.

How to get activation serial numbers:

  • New or Upgrade Activation Card Purchases:

Customers who purchase new or upgrade physical boxes will be provided serial numbers in their Avid.com accounts when they use their Activation Cards.

  • Volume License Server: Customers who purchased Volume License Server licenses will be issued 3rd party serial numbers with their VLS Certificate.
  • Purchases made on the Avid Webstore:

Customers who purchase new systems or upgrades through the Avid Store will be issued serial numbers via email and can be access in "My Account" at http://store.avid.com

Customers with support contracts or Media Composer Academic can go to www.avid.com/mc3party to generate their serial numbers
