If you are upgrading to Pro Tools 9 on either Mac OS X 10.6 or Windows 7, it is important that you install the latest device drivers separately from the Pro Tools 9 installation. In Pro Tools 9.0 and higher, the drivers for most devices are not part of the Pro Tools installation.

The Pro Tools Software Installation Guide Version 9.0 document recommends installing the latest device drivers before installing Pro Tools 9:

However, if you are installing or updating to Pro Tools 9.0.1 or higher, Avid recommends installing the latest device drivers after installing Pro Tools 9.0.1 or higher. See Also:

Knowledge Base Article 381131 has some solutions for the following error when trying to launch Pro Tools 9:
"Pro Tools could not initialize the current playback device. Please make sure that the device has been configured correctly."
