System inoperable since workgroup name was changed

Posted in Pro Tools

When a licence is applied to a framework, it gets tied to the workgroup name.  Changing the workgroup name renders the licence invalid.

You should, however, still be able to use the system, so do not delete any channel groups or channels.

To fix the licence, contact Avid CS, quote your system ID and ask for a temporary licence.  When you receive the temporary licence, check it to ensure it has the entitlements you expect.

Now you need to remove the old references from the registry.  Here are the steps:

1) Stop the System Configuration and Licensing services on both the primary and backup machines.
2) Delete the following registry keys on both machines.

***** On a 32-bit server:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Prefs\node
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Prefs\avid\workgroups\avid technology incorporated\avid system configuration service\default\avid\license service
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Prefs\avid\workgroups\avid technology incorporated\avid licensing service

***** On a 64-bit server:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\JavaSoft\Prefs\node
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\JavaSoft\Prefs\avid\workgroups\avid technology incorporated\avid system configuration service\default\avid\license service
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\JavaSoft\Prefs\avid\workgroups\avid technology incorporated\avid licensing service

3) Start the System Configuration and Licensing service on the primary server.
4) Add the temporary license.
5) Start the System Configuration and Licensing on the backup server.
6) In Service Configuration, create a new activation file and send to manufacturing.
7) Once you get the full license, delete the TEMP license (one line at a time) and then add the Full license.

You should now be able to configure your devices.

Don't forget to create an activation file and send it to Avid so that a permanent licence can be generated and sent to you.
