[Pending Validation] Driver Downloads and Updates for Pro Tools 9 and 8

If you are upgrading to Pro Tools 9 on either Mac OS X 10.6 or Windows 7, it is important that you install the latest device drivers separately from the Pro Tools 9 installation. In Pro Tools 9.0 and higher, the drivers for most devices are not part of the Pro Tools installation.

The Pro Tools Software Installation Guide Version 9.0 document recommends installing the latest device drivers before installing Pro Tools 9:

However, if you are installing or updating to Pro Tools 9.0.1 or higher, Avid recommends installing the latest device drivers after installing Pro Tools 9.0.1 or higher. See Also:

Pro Tools HD Driver
  • Pro Tools HD Driver for Mac
  • Mac drivers updated January 20, 2011(see Technical Alerts at the bottom of the page)
  • For Pro Tools 9 users only
  • Do not install on Pro Tools HD 8.x systems (The correct HD drivers are already included with Pro Tools HD 8.x installation and updates)

Knowledge Base Article 381131 has some solutions for the following error when trying to launch Pro Tools 9:
"Pro Tools could not initialize the current playback device. Please make sure that the device has been configured correctly."
