Last Updated : October 18, 2017
Products Affected : S6, S6_Master_Module

What are the steps required to restore the S6 Master Module software?
If you don't have the original USB System Restore Flash Drive that came with the S6 system you can create a new one by following these directions:
  1. Download ISO to USB from http://www.isotousb.com/
  2. Install on a Windows 7 or WIndows 8 PC
  3. Run ISO to USB and click the Browse button then select the S6 .ISO file you downloaded from your Avid account
  4. Choose FAT32 for File System
  5. Click the box for "Bootable"
  6. Click the Burn button and wait for the application to finish creating the Flash Drive
Once you have a working Flash Drive.
..
  1. Plug in a USB keyboard to an available port on the back of the M40 or M10 Master Module (note that Apple keyboards and some wireless keyboards will not work for these steps)
  2. Plug your S6 System Restore USB key disk into an available port on the back of the M40 or M10 Master Module
  3. On the touchscreen go to Settings > About and choose Logout; on the Login screen tap the Power icon and choose Restart
  4. Hold down F2 on the USB keyboard
  5. When the BIOS screen comes up use the right-arrow key to go to the Boot menu  (note that it is normal for the BIOS screen to display sideways on the touchscreen)
  6. Use the down-arrow key to select the USB key disk, then use the + key to move it to the top of the list
  7. Hit the F10 function key to Save and Restart
  8. After successfully booting from the System Restore USB flash drive you will see 2 options: BIOS and OS Reinstall
  9. Hit the number 2 on the keyboard for OS Reinstall and allow several minutes for the System Restore process to complete
  10. After System Restore you will have to Activate Windows 8 either over internet (if the S6 has an internet connection) or by phone (following the instructions in the Windows 8 settings)
Note that the Genuine Microsoft Label (GML) with your Windows license can be found on the bottom of Master Module, but that is not required to complete a System Restore

After the System Restore you should update the S6 Master Module to the current software version, which can be found in your Avid Master Account.
  1. On an internet-connected computer download the current software updater from your Avid Master Account
  2. Copy the updater to the top ("root") level of a USB flash drive (not your S6 System Restore USB key disk)
  3. Insert the USB key disk into an available USB port on the rear of the S6 Master Module
  4. Logout from the S6 Master Module touchscreen, then Log In to the Administrator account (password is "password”)
  5. Tap on the Internet Explorer tile and then navigate to the USB key disk (you can find it listed under the Computer link on the sidebar)
  6. Run (double-tap) the "S6MasterModule" file that you downloaded and follow the on-screen instructions.
