Mac OS X Spotlight does not search ISIS workspaces

Posted in Pro Tools

The Mac OS X Spotlight function is disabled intentionally on ISIS workspaces to maximize performance. Avid do not recommend enabling Spotlight on ISIS workspaces.

However, if it is absolutely necessary to have Spotlight functionality on an ISIS workspace, it is possible to enable it by deleting the hidden .metadata_never_index file at the root of the workspace (created every time the workspace is mounted). Please be aware that deleting this file may introduce performance related issues relating to ISIS.

To proceed, mount the workspace, open a Terminal window and type the following command (substituting *workspace name* for the actual name of the workspace you wish to enable for Spotlight searching):

sudo rm /Volumes/*workspace name*/.metadata_never_index

You will be prompted to enter an administrator password. PLEASE TAKE EXTRA CARE WHEN USING THE SUDO COMMAND.

This procedure will need to be executed every time the workspace is mounted.
