iPhoto: Restoring from Time Machine on OS X Lion with iPhoto 8.0 to 9.1.3

Summary

If you are using OS X Lion and iPhoto 8.0 through 9.1.3, follow the steps below to restore using Time Machine.

To restore specific photos or Events

  1. Quit iPhoto.
  2. Connect your Time Machine drive.
  3. Open iPhoto and choose File > Browse Backups to open Time Machine.
  4. After navigating to one of the backups represented by purple tick marks on the timeline, select the photos or events in the iPhoto window that you would like to restore. Note: If you are using a MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air, you may also see white tick marks. iPhoto 8.0 through 9.1.3 are not designed to restore from white tick marks and you must choose a purple tick mark.
  5. Click the Restore button.

To restore your entire iPhoto library

  1. Quit iPhoto.
  2. Connect your Time Machine drive.
