Logic Studio, Logic Studio (2009): Quicktime MPEG-2 playback disabled after upgrade to Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard

Symptoms

You may notice that QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback becomes disabled after an upgrade to Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard. Follow the steps below to resolve this issue.

 Logic Studio 1

If you have not installed any Pro Applications Updates

Reinstall Compressor following these steps: 

  1. Insert the Logic Studio 1 install DVD and double-click Install Logic Studio.
  2. Click Continue.
  3. Continue through the installer and agree to the license agreement.
  4. Deselect all options except Compressor.
  5. Click Continue and complete the installation.

If you have installed Pro Applications Updates

Reinstall Compressor following these steps: 

  1. Move the Compressor application from the Applications folder to the Trash.
  2. Insert the Logic Studio 1 install DVD and double-click Install Logic Studio.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. Continue through the installer and agree to the license agreement.
  5. Deselect all options except Compressor.
  6. Click Continue and complete the installation.
  7. From the Apple () menu, choose Software Update and install any Pro Applications Updates that are listed.

Logic Studio (2009)

If you have not installed any Pro Applications Updates.

Reinstall Compressor following these steps: 

  1. Move the Compressor application from the Applications folder to the trash.
  2. Insert the Logic Studio (2009) install DVD and double-click Install Logic Studio.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. Continue through the installer and agree to the license agreement.
  5. Deselect all options except Compressor.
  6. Click Continue and complete the installation.

If you have installed Pro Applications Updates

Open the Terminal application and enter the following commands (case sensitive) and an administrator password when prompted:

  • sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.AppleIntermediateCodec
  • sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.Compressor
  • sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.DSPPublishing
  • sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.PSTSharedA
  • sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.Uncompressed422
  • sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.VideoOutSupport

Then, reinstall Compressor with the following steps:

  1. Move the Compressor application from the Applications folder to the trash.
  2. Insert the Logic Studio (2009) install DVD and double-click Install Logic Studio.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. Continue through the installer and agree to the license agreement.
  5. Deselect all options except Compressor.
  6. Click Continue and complete the installation.
  7. From the Apple () menu, choose Software Update and install any Pro Applications Updates that are listed.
