iTunes 10.2 for Windows: Quits unexpectedly with Unknown software exception (0xc0000409) alert

Symptoms

iTunes 10.2 for Windows may quit unexpectedly. iTunes may display the alert "Unknown software exception (0xc0000409) occurred in the application at location 0x01b03335." Note: The location listed in the alert may differ.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install iTunes 10.2.2 or later. You can also install the latest version of iTunes by using Apple Software Update, which is part of iTunes 10.2:

  1. From the Start menu, choose All Programs and then choose Apple Software Update. Apple Software Update will connect to Apple's update servers and present a list of available Apple software updates.
  2. Place a checkmark next to the "iTunes + QuickTime" option (version 10.2.2 or later).
  3. Click the Install button.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
